With the Angels

Shylo

Attention: open in a new window. PrintE-mail

Shylo was rescued from an auction.  He was passed on by everyone when he went through. WHHR went to the follow week auction he was being put through again.  He was so thin, halter marks deeply cutting into his face and cuts all over legs that were infected. He came home to WHHR that day. He was a very special little man. So sweet and gentle despite the obivous treament he had recieved prior.  He was cleaned up, wounds taken care of, and fatten up. He went out in the herd and was allowed to be a horse! He loved it. But due to his age, his body eventually couldn't keep up anymore. And that hard decision had to be made. He knew what it was to be happy, and now he is free.

Daisy

We tried so hard to get Daisy back to health. She really was starting to do so well! She was gaining weight and loving life. Unfortunately it was cut short. Her body was too far gone.  Her organs couldnt keep up. That terrible decision had to be made. She at least had some happiness and all the love she could ever ask for at the end of her life. The way she should have her whole life. We all sadly miss her. She was an angel and now she has her wings.

Sky

Sky was a very special, gentle spirit.  He was a flea bitten grey 26 year old Arabian gelding. He was very thin when he arrived at Whispering Hearts, but he quickly and steadily started to gain weight!   Other then being under weight, then rest of his health was great! He was very young at heart!  May 27, 2012 was a very sad day at the rescue - the day we had him laid to rest. He brought many humans much joy and left this world with dignity and love,

Rest In Peace dear boy, you are running free in fields of green with no pain.

DOLLY

Hello my name is Dolly.  I am a black Percheron mare.  I have a good-natured temperament and am consider part of the heavy horse breed – the draft horse.  I am old, very old, and am so glad to be at Whispering Hearts Horse Rescue.  Brenda says I can stay until my time comes.  My age is 29 years old which means I may have only a few years left.

My story is long due to my age and not a pleasant one.  The last owner I had was very neglectful of me and my friends.  I was in a herd with 14 other horses and we were starving.  It is very difficult to look around at your friends and see them in distress – searching and searching for something to eat.  In my herd of friends there were many who had foals that did not live – the mothers just did not have the health to help their babies.

When Whispering Hearts Horse Rescue found and saved me my body was covered with rain rot and a fungus that needed immediate attention.  My belly was filled with worms, my feet were curled up, cracked and sore and my body ached from my arthritis.  I was so thankful to Whispering Hearts Horse rescue because I finally was given something to eat – I was so very hungry.   I was very emaciated and Brenda was very worried about me.   Brenda was told that I may be in foal, as I have been bred and bred for many years, my body is tired and thankfully after she had the doctor check my insides,  I was not expecting a baby because that would have been very dangerous for me at my age.

I have had many foals in my life time, even at the age of 27 when my last baby was born.  Many of my babies were in the herd when I was saved and some were young mothers with babies of their own – and we were all neglected and starving!  The bad part of my life is over now and I will live in peace until the end of my days at Whispering Hearts Horse Rescue.  I have great food to eat and it is always in abundance.  I have a warm blanket to keep me warm so that my arthritis does not hurt as much.  My skin is no longer itchy and sore and my belly has no more worms.  I have my friends and my grown babies around me that now are all warm, eating, healthy and doing extremely well – that makes me so happy!   Thank you Brenda for taking away the worry I have carried for so long and allowing me a wonderful place to enjoy for the last of my days while knowing that I am loved.

DEAR DOLLY WAS PEACEFULLY LAID TO REST WITH DIGNITY AT THE RESCUE, SHE WILL BE MISSED DEARLY. DOLLY TOUCHED MANY LIVES.

REST IN PEACE DEAR SWEET GIRL, YOU DESERVE IT.

HORSE PRAYER
Don't cry for the horses, that life has set free
A million white horses forever to be
Don't cry for the horses, now in God's hands
As they dance and they prance to a heavenly band

They were ours as a gift, but never to keep
As they close their eyes , forever to sleep
Their spirits unbound, on silver wings they fly
A million white horses, against the blue sky

Look up into heaven, you'll see them above
The horses we lost, the horses we loved
Manes and tails flowing, they gallop through time,
They were never yours, they were never mine

Don't cry for the horses, they will be back someday
When our time has come,
they will show us the way.

Do you hear that soft knicker, close to your ear?
Don't cry for the horses,
love the ones that are here.
